The
countryside is ideal for the visitor looking for rest and recreation.
You
may wish to visit the nearby Grotte del Diavolo – the Devil’s
caves, which are deep caverns of major historical and archaeological
interest, where prehistoric remains from the Palaeolithic era and Bronze
Age were discovered.
More
recent discoveries include Roman and Etruscan artifacts, which prove
their settlement of the area, and other items from the sixth century.
In
the ninth century Parrano was divided by a feud that was fiercely
contested by various noblemen of the area. The town still maintains a
separate, isolated feeling that has been characteristic for many years.
The
patron saint of the town is San Biagio, who is enthusiastically
celebrated on the 3rd of February.
